I learned balance by losing my balance. I remember that before I had children I was exhausted at the end of a work day and could barely muscle the energy to be there for my husband. When I had my first child, I found a whole new level of energy. And it forced me to be much more productive at work. Within five years of that first child, I had 3 more children and cancer…and had been promoted during that time. The energy and drive increased for me as my responsibilities at home and work grew. Looking back, I have no idea how I was able to do it all (although I had an amazing support network). But I am really glad that I persevered. I most remember coming to the office on Monday mornings and feeling blessed that no one was crying.
